SYNCULTURE project

The ERC-funded SYNCULTURE project situates current signal processing techniques within a much longer history of synthetic media in music, from Max Mathews and Harold Bode in the 1950s, past the commercial synthesizer boom of the 1980s, and to deepfake pop of the present. The case of music can help us understand synthetic media in terms of its poetics, aesthetics, techné, and politics, moving beyond the naive realism of real vs fake that dominates popular commentary on deepfakes. Running from 2026-2031, SYNCULTURE will offer a set of concepts, case-studies, musical works, interactive tools, and histories to help understand generative AI as part of longer–and broader–history of synthetic culture.

The Sound That Did Not Exist This Morning

The Museum of Synthesisers presents a day of hands-on synthesis, sound design and performance with Arturia as part of the Arturia World Tour

On Saturday 26 September, the Museum of Synthesisers presents the Arturia World Tour at Standalone Gallery in Dalston, in collaboration with Arturia and Source Distribution.

Drop in anytime between 11am and 7pm and explore the programme at your own pace.

Visitors can play and explore Arturia synthesisers throughout the gallery. The hands-on exhibition will also feature the 1010 Blackbox 2, ASM Leviasynth, Expressive-E Osmose CE and Buchla Ziggy, presented by Source Distribution.

Workshops on synthesiser history and sound design run through the day. Jam tables give visitors space to experiment with the instruments and play together. The programme closes with a live performance.
